Isabel Marant Fall 2016: girls just wanna have fun!
For Fall 2016 Isabel Marant was particularly in the mood to be nice and happy. “Because of what’s in Paris with the attenuate, everything is a bit heavy,” she said backstage. “It reminded me of this time in the mid-Eighties when we had a lot of fun.” In fact, even if the ’80s were a good moment for club-kid fashion -the french designer would sneak out, aged 15, to punk clubs like Le Palace and Les Bains Douches- fashionwise it can be an era best left in the past, but Isabel cherry-picked from the best parts elements that play quite modernly today. Oversize manish coats in tweeds and Prince of Wales check of varying sizes belted or studded with pins, preppy argyle sweaters and marled cable knits worn with wrapped, ruched minis and skinny, cropped pants, candy apple red patent leather and ruched and poufed party dresses, and Victorian-style blouses peeked up from under lapels. Marant’s knack for mixing and matching what cool girls want to wear rarely fails her.
