Rejina Pyo SS20
* About the runway show: «There’s always something a little offbeat about Rejina Pyo’s clothes. A colour that feels tricky: acid green, or lurid purple. A fabric that feels a bit rogue: a heavy brown wool that reminds you of the prickly chairs in your Sunday School class. For spring it was Jess Maybury in a white satin pencil skirt with the outline of a cloud sprouting from its seams, teamed with a purple ribbed bra top, Kelly green strappy mules and a pair of mint-coloured hoop earrings. So wrong, it was just right.

Pyo held her show in Holborn Library, but broke all the rules – a stand of romantic novels took centre stage (Jilly Cooper, Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice, Anne Brontë) as Kate Bush’s Cloudbusting boomed across the usually silent reading rooms. “I love libraries, how they make you switch off from your phone,” Pyo said, backstage. “You can really become absorbed in research and I feel our brand is like that – it’s about slow fashion, buying things that will really last.” Sustainability was a focus, and Pyo has worked hard to source recycled polyester, regenerated cashmere and organic and natural fibres to form the bulk of her collection, chock full with wearable low-slung skirts and oversized shirts, languid dresses and sharp tailoring in a palette of mimosa, chocolate brown, cream, lime and lilac. She also wanted to it to feel inclusive: to that end, she invited fashion students and members of the public to sit in the gallery upstairs.» (For more go to VOGUE.CO.UK)
