Isabel Marant’s sweaters are on every street style gallery this season
About Isabel Marant Pre-Fall 2018 collection, as seen on Vogue.com by amy Vermer: During a showroom visit, Isabel Marant suggested that she was playing up her tomboy tendencies a little more than usual with this season’s Étoile collection. Pieces that register androgynous but fit just right are among Étoile’s emerging strengths. Proof was in the cropped work jacket in ochre shown with stony white jeans and feisty pirate boots that Marant picked for herself. But the ongoing appeal of this lower-priced collection remains the offhand balance between masculine and feminine. That’s why you will still find a decent range of dresses in these images as a counterpoint to an oversize blazer, or simply worn on their own.
The more subliminal messaging within this mix had to do with the fashion zeitgeist. Time was, Marant would take an American reference—say, country-western—and inject it with Parisian chic. With all of Paris enthralled in an uglier aesthetic, she’s figured out how to package this anew. Those country-western details appear here, freshly unchic.
But given that the typical Étoile customer, according to Marant, is someone who comes back season after season happily expecting much of the same, the offering still includes such Étoile essentials as a shearling bomber, a flattering leather pant, and variations on the ruffled mini. The leather version with gathered detailing would not go unworn.
