The parisian designer that never lets cool french girl dressing down
“I think it’s the first time I didn’t really have a theme,” Isabel Marant said backstage after her Spring Summer 2017 show. “I just followed my feelings.” Designing intuitively toward her idea of cool french girl dressing yielded a fantastic collection, one of Marant’s best in a while. The combo of sporty, utilitarian, and vaguely bohemian references was grounded in the way working women zip about a city like Paris, moving between the office to the gym to cocktail hour and back again. Best of the dresses were as romantic and flirty as the designer gets: replete with ruffles, covered in Liberty London-style floral prints, and finished with the billowing statement sleeves we’ve seen all over the runways for Spring. Marant used also corsetry and workwear together to capture a real woman’s instinctive, everyday sense of femininity.
