Gucci Fall 2018
“We are the Dr. Frankenstein of our lives” said Alessandro Michele about Gucci Fall 2018 runway show- a crazy, creepy, confounding spectacle full of fantastical clothes- titled «Cyborg» after Donna Haraway’s 1984 essay. “There’s a clinical clarity about what I am doing. I was thinking of a space that represents the creative act. I wanted to represent the lab I have in my head. It’s physical work, like a surgeon’s. Doing my job [is] a strange path…in my mind at least, I have a scientific clarity on what I do.”
What about the heads? And the baby dragons? Here’s what Alessandro had to say: “The heads represented the struggle…all the teenagers make, even people my own age, trying to develop their personality, to nourish their mind deeply.” “I am a lover of the divine. I would celebrate the gods of Olympus rather than our Catholic sanctities”
“We exist to reproduce ourselves, but we have moved on. We are in a post-human era, for sure; it is under way. Now, we have to decide what we want to be.”
