Alexander Wang 10th Anniversary Capsule Collection: shop it now!
Alexander Wang might have bid farewell to Balenciaga just last month, but he still has plenty to celebrate.
The renowned designer—who debuted his first fashion line at 21 after dropping out of Parsons School of Design in his sophomore year—just unveiled a new capsule collection marking his brand’s 10th anniversary: a gathering of his greatest hits, determined by fan feedback posted on Twitter and Instagram.
“Social media has a very sincere, immediate, and democratic way of reaching out to people,” Wang, who has over a million Instagram followers, told Vogue. “I appreciate how I can talk directly to our audience and get instant feedback. This was really an opportunity to hear from our customers worldwide, what they liked best, which moments and which looks stood out to them.”
The spring 2009 collection turned out to be a true fan favorite, with four of the 10 re-released pieces coming from the brightly colored, Miami-inspired show; although this time around, each item is done up in all black. The powerful, sexy fall 2009 show inspired two of the looks — a fur-sleeved moto jacket and the semi-sheer bra cup dress — with the rest coming from a sprinkling of popular collections, including the football-themed spring 2010 runway and the high-volume fall 2011 show. Also, the stretch leather pant from Fall 2008; lace-up leather shorts from Spring 2010; and quilted sleeve sweater from Fall 2011.
